Traditional Longbow Making Sat/Sun 2-3 December 2017

 

We are thrilled to host Lars Richter to run a two-day longbow making course.

ON: 10am Saturday  – til 5pm Sunday
AT: Monkerai NSW Google map directions
FOR: All ages (adult supervision required for under 12)
TYPE: Two-day workshop camp
SKILLS COVERED:: Making longbow, string, tillering, shooting.
COST: $300 – Tuition, materials, arrow and one night camping included in price.
ACCOMMODATION DETAILS: Free camping on-site available before or after.
BRING:Bring your own food and camping equipment.

Price: $300 (includes all materials and one arrow)

What you’ll get out of it:
-knowledge and skills to make your own longbow

-the longbow that you make

-learn how to make a bowstring that perfectly complements your own bow

-understand the art of tillering, the process of carefully removing wood to cause the bows to bend in optimal arcs

-creating an aesthetically pleasing product through sanding and oiling

-how to shoot including the instinctive shooting method. A powerful tool you can also utilize in many daily life situations.

Your Teacher:
Facilitator Lars Richter has been teaching longbow making and other traditional skills (arrow and quiver making, knife and shoe making) to both children and adults in Victoria, Australia for more than 2 years.

      Hi Charbel,
      We are hosting Lars Richter to run the longbow making in conjunction with us, and 2-3 Dec is the next bow making day offered by us, it will be held in Monkerai, NSW, Australia (1.5 hours north of Newcastle).
      Lars will be running other courses elsewhere in Australia, you can check on his website for other dates and locations, narrativeyoga.com.au

    Hello,
    does this bow making course teach how to preserve the growth ring on the back of the bow?
    as this is important to make a self bow that will not break eventually when shooting.

        Hi James,

        Thank you for your query.

        Yes, it is an important point to preserve the growth ring on the back.

        However, we will only talk about the importance of it making a self bow.

        The process would take to much time for a 2 day workshop.

        We will work with flour boards in the workshop.
        Working with flour boards is similar to the idea of a decrowned bow.

        I hope that helps.
