We are thrilled to host Lars Richter to run a two-day longbow making course.

ON: 10am Saturday  – til 5pm Sunday
AT: Monkerai NSW Google map directions
FOR: All ages (adult supervision required for under 12)
TYPE: Two-day workshop camp
SKILLS COVERED:: Making longbow, string, tillering, shooting.
COST: $300 – Tuition, materials, arrow and one night camping included in price.
ACCOMMODATION DETAILS: Free camping on-site available before or after.
BRING:Bring your own food and camping equipment.

Price: $300 (includes all materials and one arrow)

What you’ll get out of it:
-knowledge and skills to make your own longbow

-the longbow that you make

-learn how to make a bowstring that perfectly complements your own bow

-understand the art of tillering, the process of carefully removing wood to cause the bows to bend in optimal arcs

-creating an aesthetically pleasing product through sanding and oiling

-how to shoot including the instinctive shooting method. A powerful tool you can also utilize in many daily life situations.

Your Teacher:
Facilitator Lars Richter has been teaching longbow making and other traditional skills (arrow and quiver making, knife and shoe making) to both children and adults in Victoria, Australia for more than 2 years.

Knife Making Weekend Workshops

knife detailWORKSHOP: Learn to make a bush knife just like these yourself, making a blade out of scrap metal and a handle from native timber (all materials provided).

The final knife that you take home will be a bushcraft knife, the kind you can make out of materials and equipment found in the shed.
The blade will be strong, won’t snap and is easy to sharpen in the field.
The shape and styling is good for bush crafts, wood carving, skinning and general outdoor adventure.

LOCATION: The weekend course will be held at “cootaame” a private bushland  property  on Trevor Top Rd, in Monkerai, NSW .

You will need to bring your own camping equipment and food for main meals, and are welcome to arrive on Friday afternoon / evening.

Our next scheduled knife making course will be in 2016.
However:

If you and up to three others would like to book a private knife making weekend workshop,
please contact us to book  an available weekend

COST: $1000 for a group workshop
(eg. $250/person for 4 people) All materials included. Each participant will take the home a knife they made!

Wild 101: Introductory Bush Skills 20-22 October via Dungog 2017

This is a great overview course for anyone interesting in wilderness survival skills, bush crafts, nature and developing your bush confidence.

FOR: Adults (10-105 years old)
TYPE: Weekend Camp: 6pm Friday to 3pm Sunday
SKILLS COVERED: Detailed introduction to fire by friction, shelter, rope making, weaving, bush food, barefoot walking, nature immersion, bird language.

LOCATION: Monkerai, via Dungog, NSW
COST: $230/person :  includes tuition, materials and camping fees.
SPECIAL OFFERS :  $210 per person if book for 2 people (if paid in full).
WHAT TO BRING: All food and camping equipment for the weekend.

Weaving workshop

IMG_4073In this one day workshop, you will be weaving in an outdoor setting with all natural materials.
Learn the basics of weaving in the traditional style of North-east Australia,  and weave your own basket out of locally harvested plants.
Your instructors have been taught traditional weaving by indigenous women of Arnhem land.

No previous experience required.

Materials and bush food inspired morning tea supplied.
Bring your own lunch.


FOR: Adults (15 -105)
TYPE: One day course
COST: $70
SKILLS COVERED: Natural material collection, an introduction to different basket types, weaving a basket or mat.
NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:  Experienced weavers also welcome.
