The magic of making fire by friction.

It is amazing what the right materials, a good technique, a friend and a good attitude can create.

It’s simple in a way, yet something few would call easy. Magic- yes, Easy – rarely!

In short we will likely be doing a mixture of the following – survival shelter building, making rope from nature, fire by friction, bush tucker, awareness, bird language, basketry, sense development, barefoot activities, jungle gym, working with knives and practicing stillness.

All activities are challenge by choice – only requirement is to be present for the start and the end of the course.
It will be run in an easy-going atmosphere while still allowing people the opportunity to push their limits.

Cost is $230. Includes camping fees, tuition and materials.
    Starts 6pm Friday May 15
    Ends – 4pm Sunday May 17
Bring you own camping gear and food.
There will be cooking equipment available for cooking on the fire – eg billies, fry pan, camp oven.

If you click on the “All Ages Programs” page, and scroll to the end, there are details on what to expect from a course and the kind of equipment you might need to bring.

If you have a specific question, or particular information that might be helpful on the website, please let us know.
    Thanks!

    Hello
I was wondering if you would consider a 13.5 year old attending the bush camp, accompanied by me, his Mum.
Professionally I work with Samaritans as an Early Intervention worker with young people 12-18 years. I am exploring the possibility of establishing a bush tucker garden as part of our services. We run groupwork programs at a community garden and are looking at introducing eco activities as tools for engagement.
Personally my partner and I purchased 250 acres just outside of Dungog last year. We intend to move there in the next few months and are looking at potential ways that we can live with the land. There has never been a building on the property and it has been used for cattle but it has a rainforest and open scrub…it’s gorgeous and I am keen to increase my knowledge anyway I can.

Let me know what you think…

    Many thanks
    Tracy

      Hello Tracy,

I know we have been chatting by email, I thought I might post an answer also on the web for anyone else who had similar questions:

1.We are flexible with ages, and 13 year olds and even older enjoy the bush camp.
We sometimes run a bush camp especially for teens (12+) (and parents too if you would like to join in!).

2.Eco activities for other groups is something we do: we have run bush food rambles for Primary Schools for NAIDOC week and wildfood walks for festivals. Please contact us if you would like to discus options.

      3. How wonderful that you are moving to the lovely Dungog region!
Another option is to organise a course on your property, if you can organise 10 participants, we will come to your place and run any course you like, for example, we could do a bush food course, and show you the abundance on your own land!

      4. You can join our mailing list to receive (infrequent) emails from us.

      🙂
